Sending report-backs

Report-backs are super important to the members of your community when negotiating EBA’s. They give members a sense of ownership, trust and calm that their interests are being looked after. It is important that members feel like they are up to date with how the negotiations are tracking, and have knowledge when certain demands are met or are a sticking point.


Here are some things to think about when doing report-backs.

  1. After every meeting or at any breaks during a negotiation send a message explaining the key points discussed, any outcomes and any positive movement
  2. Keep messages short and simple. Use dot points when possible
  3. If negotiations are not going well let your members know. It can be useful to use emotional language in your messaging but avoid person attacks about management
  4. Explain how long the negotiations are taking and what the company is doing to reduce the claims
